Teen charged as an adult in deadly Aurora party shooting

DENVER (KDVR) — A 16-year-old is being charged as an adult in district court following a deadly shooting at an Aurora party.

On Tuesday, the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office announced the filing of charges against Xavier Garcia in the death of a 19-year-old. Garcia is facing charges of first-degree murder and possession of a handgun by a juvenile.

On March 23, officers were called to the Victory Grange rental hall on North Tower Road.

The Aurora Police Department said the venue had been rented out for a large party of juveniles and young adults.

However, investigators found that an argument broke out between people who knew each other, and it escalated into a shooting that took place inside the rental hall.

When Aurora officers arrived at the party, they found two victims. A 19-year-old was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Aurora police said another man had been shot but he was released from the hospital.

Garcia’s charges have been filed into the Adams County District Court, meaning he will be charged as an adult. However, because he is considered a juvenile, his booking photos will not be released.

Garcia’s next court date is scheduled for April 3 at 8:30 a.m.
