Teen charged in shooting near Musser school

Jun. 26—SHARON — Sharon police charged a juvenile they say was involved in a shooting June 8 outside Musser Elementary School.

Christian Anthony Fonteboa, 17, of 1125 Cedar Ave., Sharon, was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a minor, carrying a firearm without a license, reckless endangerment and possession of a weapon on school property in connection with the shooting.

With the gun offense, police can charge Fonteboa as an adult.

Police said in a criminal complaint that they were dispatched at 8:42 p.m. June 8 to the 500 block of Cedar Avenue near the school for a report of shots fired.

Upon their arrival, police saw video surveillance provided by a neighbor that showed a suspect, in a black hoodie, long, black shorts and black shoes, firing several shots with a handgun from the dumpster area of Musser along the 500 block of Spruce Avenue.

The video showed two vehicles traveling south on Cedar Avenue, then turning west onto Plum Street and pulling to the north side of the street. A man dressed similarly to the suspect exited one of the vehicles and ran north on Cedar. That man, who can be seen carrying a handgun, stopped between the dumpster and concrete barrier on the north side of the school and fired multiple shots toward the west. Police said several children can be seen in front of and around the man at the time of the shooting.

After police found the car the suspect was in, they interviewed a witness connected to that vehicle. He said he gave Fonteboa a ride, and Fonteboa asked him to stop the car near the school because he saw somebody he "has a beef with," according to the criminal complaint.

The witness refused to stop, but Fonteboa tried to get out anyway. When the car stopped and Fonteboa get out, he had a handgun.

Police said Fonteboa then started shooting from the dumpster area. The video shows people running to get away from the gunfire.

Police said no one was injured in the gunfire.

Fonteboa's preliminary hearing is set for July 13 before District Judge Dennis M. Songer, Sharon.
