Teen charged in Thursday morning crash

Wichita Falls police charged a driver with drunk driving after an early morning wreck sent two people to the hospital.

According to officers on-scene, two people were transported to the hospital after a truck collided with another vehicle on Iowa Park Road.

According to allegations presented in a probable cause report:

WF Police responded to Iowa Park Road at Covington Street for a report of an accident Thursday around 3 a.m.

The officers were told a man wearing a gray hoodie and with a bloodied face was the driver of the truck and left the scene. They found him north of the intersection. An officer detected the odor of alcoholic beverage emitting from the man’s breath and noticed his eyes were bloodshot. The man admitted to consuming an alcoholic beverage before operating a motor vehicle, but said he was not sure how much he consumed.

He was taken to the hospital for treatment and agreed to perform a Standardized Field Sobriety Test, but only a portion of the test was performed due to his being treated in a hospital bed. He showed 6 out of 6 clues during the portion of the test, the Horizonal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN). He was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated, a Class B Misdemeanor.
