Teen cited for gunshot injury at Medford Tinseltown

Dec. 6—Medford police identified the individual who shot himself in the leg at a Medford movie theater the night before Thanksgiving, and they say the 19-year-old man will face criminal charges.

Samuel Arroyo, 19, was cited Tuesday on misdemeanor charges of unlawfully possessing a firearm and recklessly endangering another person related to the shooting incident described as an "accidental discharge" reported to dispatchers at 11:05 p.m. Nov. 23 at the multiplex at 651 Medford Center.

The crime of unlawfully possessing a firearm most often applies when a person carries a concealed firearm without obtaining a concealed handgun license.

The gunshot interrupted a 10:45 p.m. showing of "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" according to an earlier news report from the website MedfordAlert.com.

Police say they found Arroyo outside the theater with an "apparent gunshot wound to his thigh," and that Arroyo was "under the influence of alcohol and other substances" at the time of the shooting and was "not cooperative with the initial investigation."

Police say Arroyo was cited and released rather than booked in the Jackson County Jail because of the extent of injuries to his upper thigh.

Jackson County Circuit Court records show the Jackson County District Attorney's Office had not yet filed charges as of Tuesday afternoon, and Oregon court records showed no criminal history for Arroyo.
