Like any big high school dance, finding a date is pretty much the worst part, especially with the recent trend of viral promposal and homecoming proposals to live up to. Joe LaRue figured out a way to end all of that.

After having a little trouble finding a date, LaRue decided to do the only logical thing and go by himself. But instead of just showing up without a date on his arm, LaRue decided to announce going stag in style.

"The idea came about because my mom asked if I was going to homecoming and I said 'no' because I couldn't find a date," LaRue told Mashable. "She said, 'it'd be funny if you asked yourself and put it on Twitter.'"

Armed with some fried chicken from Cane's and a punny sign, LaRue popped himself the big question.

And his reaction was priceless.

Thankfully, he said yes!

Naturally, LaRue tweeted a photo of the adorable proposal, which has since racked up more than 11,000 retweets at the time of writing.

"The response has been awesome," said LaRue. "I really didn't expect it at all but I'm thrilled with what happened."

Clearly, the rest of the internet appreciated the joke and subtle jab at the ridiculousness of the whole thing.

Some found some inspiration in LaRue's tweet.

While others just noted that he is now a living legend.

Homecoming is this Saturday, so here's to hoping that LaRue and his date have a great evening.
