Teen dies in fall from cliff while hiking in Maine’s Acadia National Park

A teenage boy fell to his death during a hike in Acadia National Park in Maine last week, officials said.

Park rangers and Bar Harbor police officers responding to a report of a person who suffered a fall near the Otter Cliff area around 12 p.m. on Friday immediately launched a technical rescue and performed CPR on the victim, according to the National Parks Service.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation revealed that the boy was hiking with friends when he fell about 25 feet.

Educators identified the victim as Bryce Basso, a junior at Brewer High School in Brewer, Maine, WABI-TV reported.

The National Park Service reported the incident to the Maine Office of Chief Medical Examiner, which handles investigations into unexpected deaths.

There were no additional details immediately available.

An investigation remains ongoing.
