Renaissance Theaterworks, Milwaukee's professional theater company founded and led by women, plans a season of works by female playwrights in 2023-'24, including a striking Pulitzer-Prize-finalist drama about contemporary teen girls.

Unless otherwise noted, all shows will take place at 255 S. Water St. Here's a look at Renaissance's 2023-'24 season.

'Witch,' Oct. 20-Nov. 12

Renaissance artistic director Suzan Fete will direct Jen Silverman's dark comedy, a re-envisioning of a Jacobean drama about what happens when an attractive devil visits a small village to bargain for souls. Renaissance previously performed Silverman's "The Roommate." The cast of "Witch" will include Marti Gobel, Neil Brookshire, Joe Picchetti, Reese Madigan and James Carrington.

'The Wolves,' Jan. 19-Feb. 11, 2024

In partnership with First Stage's Young Company, a troupe of advanced teen actors, Renaissance will perform Sarah DeLappe's coming-of-age play about teenage girls on an indoor soccer team, processing everything in their lives from homework and college scouting to sexuality and death while warming up for weekly matches. Elyse Edelman, a First Stage alum and past Renaissance actor, will make her Renaissance directing debut with this show.

'L'Appartement,' March 22-April 14, 2024

In Joanna Murray-Smith's edgy comedy, a couple on a Paris vacation meet the super-chic hosts of their Airbnb and begin to question everything. Renaissance has previously performed the Australian playwright's "Honour"; Milwaukee Repertory Theater has performed her "Songs for Nobodies," "American Song" and "Bombshells."

Br!nk New Play Festival, May 18-19, 2024

As part of an annual effort encouraging new work by Midwestern women playwrights, Renaissance will workshop "Black Bear Island" by Karissa Murrell Myers and "Tragedy Sound" by Karen Saari. At the end of the week, those plays will be presented to the public at locations to be announced later.
