Teen facing charges for allegedly taping fish to ATMs in Provo

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — A teenager is in hot water after allegedly taping fish to ATMs in Provo and documenting the antics on social media.

Among the displays posted online was a video that appeared to show three trout taped to a police car.

The Provo Police Department said Thursday there were roughly 13 instances where the 17-year-old taped fish to ATMs and other objects.

The fishy displays were shared on an Instagram account titled “fish_bandit84.” The account has more than 52,000 followers, and its posts date back to August of 2023.

It’s unclear if the account creator did all of the fish-taping, or if they also curated content posted elsewhere online.

The bio of the account reads: “Live, laugh, tape fish on ATMS.”

The video showing the trout taped to a Provo police car garnered nearly 30,000 likes.

Among the comments was one reading: “Diabolical, new anti hero roaming the streets.” It was liked by the account owner.

According to police, the teenager is facing two charges of property damage, which were referred to Juvenile Justice and Youth Services. The two charges stemmed from the cost of cleanup.

Police said the case was closed in December, adding that they won’t speak on it further as the case is being processed.

A TiTok account under the same name also shows videos of fish taped to ATMS or other objects, such as the back of a bathroom stall door. Some of the fish in these videos have cigarettes in their mouths.
