Teen gets trapped under tombstone when it topples onto her leg at cemetery, MA cops

A teen girl needed rescuing after a tombstone fell on her at a Massachusetts cemetery, police say.

Officers were called around 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, after the 17-year-old’s leg became trapped under the tombstone, according to the Beverly Police Department.

It happened at St. Mary’s Cemetery, WXFT reported.

The 3-foot-high by 4-foot-wide stone was toppled over when the teen tried sitting on it, slipped and fell, Michael Boccuzzi, a spokesperson for the police department, told McClatchy News. Responding officers lifted it off her leg, and she was taken to a hospital.

Police didn’t say how long the teen was trapped. She suffered injuries to her leg, though the severity was unclear, Boccuzzi said.

Charges are not expected.

Beverly is about 20 miles northeast of downtown Boston.
