Teen on motorcycle killed after striking truck near Madera, CHP said. He was 17

A 17-year-old was killed after running a stop sign on a motorcycle and slamming into a truck near Madera, the California Highway Patrol said Thursday.

The Chowchilla teen was riding a 2017 Honda motorcycle headed west on Avenue 20 about 6:15 p.m. Wednesday as he approached a stop sign at the intersection with Road 16 in a rural area northwest of Madera, CHP said.

A 56-year-old Lemoore man was northbound on Road 16 at the same time in a 2017 Ford truck, CHP said. There is no stop sign there for traffic on Road 16.

For an unknown reason, the teen did not stop at the sign and struck the truck, CHP said. He was thrown from the bike and into the roadway.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP said, despite wearing a helmet.

The Lemoore man did not report any injuries, CHP said.
