One dead, 3 hospitalized after high-speed police chase and crash near Upatoi

A teenager is dead after high-speed chase near Upatoi that ended in a car crash, Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan told the Ledger-Enquirer on Friday.

Bryan identified the victim as 19-year-old Andrew Miles Hardie.

The chase occurred after troopers attempted to stop the car on State Route 22 (Macon Road) in Talbot County for traffic violations around 9:49 p.m. Thursday, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

GSP said the driver continued driving west weaving in and out of traffic at high speed.

The driver eventually lost control of the vehicle and drove into the median striking several trees before re-entering the eastbound lanes of State Route 22 striking an 18-wheeler, according to a GSP statement.

GSP said the front seat passenger of the suspect’s car was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle and the rear seat passenger received serious injuries and were transported by EMS to Piedmont Midtown Hospital, according to GSP. The driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to the hospital complaining of a head injury, GSP said.
