Teen Severely Injured After Jumping from Balcony Inside Boston Courthouse
A teenager jumped from a fourth-floor balcony inside Boston’s Edward W. Brooke Courthouse on Monday, according to the Massachusetts State Police.
The State Police confirmed to PEOPLE that the teenager, whose identity remains undisclosed, leaped from the balcony inside of the courthouse down to the first floor just before 11 a.m. local time on Monday morning.
The boy sustained “serious injuries” after his jump and was subsequently taken to a hospital in Boston.
According to police, the teenager was at the courthouse after recently being arrested on domestic violence charges. He was not in custody when he arrived at the courthouse to reportedly face charges in juvenile court.

“The victim apparently jumped from a balcony facing an inner atrium down to the first floor,” a State Police spokesperson told PEOPLE. “He suffered serious injuries and was transported to a Boston hospital.”
The incident is still under investigation by the State Police.

According to the Daily Mail, a witness said that he heard “screaming” at the courthouse on Monday morning.
“When I looked up, it was from the fourth floor,” the witness said on social media, according to the outlet. “You see a mother that was up there screaming and her daughter, or a young female, was up there screaming. A lot of people were just running from the court side to side.”
