SINGAPORE — An 18-year-old boy who uploaded upskirt photos of his teacher, along with photos of her at her workplace and with her family, was sentenced to 18 months’ probation on Tuesday (8 February).

The student had done so in anger, as he felt his teacher did not care for him as much as she had been in previous years.

As part of his probation, the teen will have to perform 80 hours of community service, attend psycho-education on healthy sexuality and responsible sexual conduct, and keep to a time curfew. His mother was also placed on a bond of $5,000 to ensure her son’s good behaviour.

He had earlier pleaded guilty to a count of transmitting obscene material via electronic means, by uploading the teacher’s images to online platform Tumblr. Another two charges, of instigating two schoolmates to send him screenshots of the teacher’s upskirt videos, were considered for his sentencing.

He cannot be named as his identity is protected under the Children and Young Persons Act, as he was only 17 when he committed the offences. The victim cannot be named too, as her identity is under a gag order. Her age was also redacted from court documents.

Procured screenshots of upskirt videos

Between April and May 2019, the teen learnt that at least two upskirt videos of the victim had been recorded. He procured a screenshot each from two of the videos from two of his schoolmates.

Upon receiving the screenshots, the teen edited and altered the colour and orientation of the photos to create several variations. While at home, he uploaded the screenshots together with the variations onto Tumblr. He also uploaded other photos of the victim in her workplace and with her family members; these photos revealed the victim’s face.

The teen also posted a caption which included the victim’s name. He stated, “Upskirt pictures. Can all of you guys reblog, like and share this…. Thanks…enjoy the pictures."

The victim lodged a police report on 21 May 2019 stating that her pictures had been uploaded onto pornographic websites.
