Teenage boy charged with shooting 2 girls with BB gun at Millbury shopping plaza

MILLBURY ― A 13 year old faces multiple assault charges after allegedly firing a BB gun at two teenage girls as they left a store Friday at The Shops at Blackstone Valley, police said.

The girls, 15 and 13, were exiting Crumbl Cookies shortly after 5:30 p.m. when a young male allegedly shot and hit them with the BB gun, said Millbury Police Chief Brian S. Lewos.

Lewos said that the 13 year old who is facing charges knew the girls, but the motive for the alleged shooting is not exactly known.

No injuries needing medical attention were reported, said Lewos.

Lewos said that the 13 year old had harassed the girls earlier that evening during a movie showing at the nearby Blackstone Valley 14 Cinema de Lux, following them and making sexist remarks during an elevator ride as the girls were on their way out of the movie theater.

The juvenile had followed them to Panera Bread and later to Crumbl Cookies, where he had allegedly waited outside on the back of a bike, according to Lewos.

As the girls were exiting the store, the 13-year-old had allegedly opened fire, striking the girls and, in the process, shattering one of the dessert store's windows, Lewos said.

Another juvenile male who witnessed the scene chased after the 13 year old, who after the attack had attempted to flee. The young witness caught up with him and subdued him until police arrived.

"We commend him," said Lewos.

The juvenile is charged with two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, a minor discharging a BB gun air rifle, destruction of property over $1,200, among other charges.

The 13 year old was released that same night to his mother. He is expected to appear at the Worcester County Juvenile Court, Lewos said.
