A teenage speedway rider is fighting for his life following a crash at the British Youth Championships in Glasgow.

Fifteen-year-old Sam Norris suffered a serious brain injury and is on life support at an intensive care unit in the city.

The incident took place at the Ashfield Stadium on Sunday as Norris was racing for The Young Lions, the Great Britain Youth Speedway Team.

Following the crash, the remainder of the event was cancelled.

In a post on his Facebook page, his parents provided an update on his condition.

“He is quite uncomfortable at the moment and has not regained consciousness as expected so he is having another brain scan today.

“We can only hope that there is nothing more than they already were aware of.”

Norris is a member of Midenhall Fen Tigers Speedway team.

The teen was competing in the 23rd heat of 250cc section of the event when the accident occurred.
