Teenager allegedly assaults foodpanda rider in Bukit Batok, police investigating
Police said both individuals have been arrested for affray after the fight broke out along Bukit Batok Street 41
SINGAPORE — Police are investigating a fistfight involving a 13-year-old teenager and a 45-year-old foodpanda rider in Bukit Batok last Sunday (23 April).
The police told Yahoo Southeast Asia on Friday (28 April) that both individuals were arrested for affray after a fight broke out along Bukit Batok Street 41.
"On 23 April 2023 at about 6.40pm, the Police were alerted to a fight along Bukit Batok Street 41. Two men, aged 13 and 45, were conveyed conscious to the hospital. Both men were subsequently arrested for affray," the Singapore Police Force said in a media statement.
Boy allegedly charged at the rider
The incident occurred outside Le Quest Shopping Mall and was caught on video, which has been circulating widely online.
The 16-second video shows the teenager, dressed in a black jacket and pants, attacking the foodpanda rider, who was wearing a blue T-shirt and dark-coloured bermuda shorts.
In the footage, the teen could be heard shouting "Lai!" (come in Mandarin) before charging at the man and throwing punches at him.
Despite the man's attempts to defend himself and retreat to his work bicycle, the boy continued to pummel him, almost causing him to fall over the bicycle.
Shin Min Daily News reported that passers-by eventually intervened to stop the fight, and the police were called.
The exact cause of the alleged altercation remains unclear.
