Teener baseball roundup: Winner uses late rally to edge Mitchell Black

Jun. 6—Winner scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to top Mitchell Black 7-4 in a Mitchell Baseball 14-and-under Teener tournament game Saturday at Cadwell Park.

Mitchell went 1-2 in tournament play.

Winner scored three runs in the top of the fifth to take a 3-2 lead, but Mitchell (6-5) rallied and regained the lead on an RBI single by Landon Soulek in the bottom of the sixth. Winner's Landon Calhoon tied the game with an RBI single in the top of the seventh and Zac Olson notched the go-ahead run with an RBI single.

Calhoon and Karson Keiser both went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Konner Osborn went 2-for-4. Aiden Schroeder also drove in a run for Winner. Calhoon allowed one earned run on nine hits to earn a complete-game win.

Soulek went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Hudson Borgan, Mason Herman and Kellen Odell all had two hits for Mitchell. Ben Wilber tossed a complete game, allowing three earned runs on nine hits and struck out four.

Yankton 12, Mitchell Black 8

Yankton scored eight runs in the first two innings, but Mitchell could not recover despite delivering 13 hits.

The Lakers went 3-0 in tournament play, defeating Winner 11-3 and scoring a 9-1 win over Huron on Friday.

Kael Garry went 2-for-4 with three RBIs for Yankton (6-3), while Cohen Zahrbock went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Matthew Sheldon was 3-for-4 with an RBI. Trey Sager also drove in two runs.

Ben Wilber went 3-for-4 with an RBI for Mitchell, while Conor Mattke drove in three runs. Parker Mandel went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while A.J. Wilber and Esten Schlimgen each had RBIs.

Herman and Mandel combined to allow 10 earned runs on nine hits and seven walks, while striking out five.

Mitchell Black 8, Huron 0

A.J. Wilber tossed a one-hit shutout as Mitchell blanked Huron in a Mitchell Baseball 14-and-under Teener tournament game on Friday.

Wilber struck out eight in five innings, while also going 2-for-3 with an RBI at the plate. Schlimgen also went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Ben Wilber and Borgan also had RBIs.

Mitchell White 4, Post 15 Sioux Falls East 3

Jaxson Hartman did not allow an earned run as Mitchell White topped Post 15 East to cap a 3-1 weekend Saturday in the Mitchell Baseball 13-and-under Teener tournament.

Hartman surrendered two unearned runs on two hits on five walks for Mitchell (7-5), while striking out four in 4 1/3 innings. He also went 2-for-2 at the plate. Tyler Christensen drove in two runs and Gavin Jones notched an RBI.

Mitchell faces Sioux Falls West in a doubleheader at 5 p.m. Tuesday in Sioux Falls.

Mitchell White 10, Pierre 4

Mitchell White scored seven unanswered runs to take down Pierre Saturday in the Mitchell Baseball 13-and-under Teener tournament.

Jones went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, while Hartman went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Carter McCormick went 3-for-3, while Quinton WIlson and Rylan Rients drove in one run apiece. Jacob Ebert allowed four unearned runs on five hits, while striking out six in five innings.

Lincoln Schoenhard went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Pierre.

Mitchell White 12, Yankton 0

Mitchell White needed three innings to notch 12 runs in a win over Yankton Friday in the Mitchell Baseball 13-and-under Teener tournament.

Ebert went 2-for-2 with two RBIs, while Christensen went 2-for-2 with an RBI. Jones also went 2-for-2, while Oscar Luque drove in two runs. Jones did not allow a run on one hit and struck out six in three innings.

Ethan Carlson and Nathan Barnes allowed eight earned runs on nine hits for the Grey Sox.

Huron 10, Mitchell White 3

A five-run second inning sunk Mitchell White in a loss to Huron Friday in the Mitchell Baseball 13-and-under Teener tournament.

Tyler Christensen drove in a run for Mitchell, which mustered four hits. Dawson Jonnassen and Christensen allowed 10 earned runs on nine hits and eight walks, while striking out seven.

Mitchell 15-16s split with Winner/Colome

The Mitchell 15-16-year-old squad split a doubleheader against Winner/Colome Friday in Winner.

Mitchell scored a 10-6 win in Game 2, but Winner/Colome took the second game 17-1.

Gavin Soukup allowed three earned runs on eight hits and struck out 11 in five innings to send Mitchell (3-2) to the win in Game 1. Lukas Bennett went 2-for-2 with two RBIs, while Lincoln Bates went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Colin Stange went 2-for-2 with an RBI. Karter Sibson also drove in two runs.

Pierce Nelson went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Winner/Colome, while Jack Peters went 2-for-3 and Charley Pravecek drove in a run. Nelson and Justin Hausmann combined to allow eight earned runs on 11 hits and seven walks.

In Game 2, Winner/Colome scored 11 runs in the third inning, while not allowing a hit in the three-inning game.

Winner/Colome earned 11 runs on six hits, five walks and three errors in the third. Aiden Barfuss finished 2-for-2 with three RBIs, while Nelson went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Joseph Laprath went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Ethan Bartels allowed one earned run on three walks.

Bennett, Bates and Connor Singray allowed 12 earned runs on 11 hits and six walks.
