Teens accused of shooting pellets at vehicles

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two teens are facing felony charges after they were accused of shooting airsoft pellets into oncoming traffic.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office says 15 cars were hit by airsoft pellets that are usually found in BB guns. All were hit at the Mudville and Merrill Road intersection in Millington on President’s Day.

Deputies say they’ve arrested two 15-year-olds who were shooting the pellets at cars. Both are now facing aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, and felony vandalism charges.

Because they are juveniles, their names or criminal history won’t be released.

Brother of shooting suspect claims it was self-defense

Using the City of Memphis datahub, WREG took a look at crime statistics across Memphis. So far this year, there have been more than 280 felony vandalism cases and 336 aggravated assault cases.

In recent months, a group of community leaders gathered in front of Memphis City Hall to voice their frustration with youth crime.

“We have plans for crime but we don’t have plans for the youth,” said community activist Damon Curry Morris.

WREG reached out to the sheriff’s office for crime numbers in the county. We are waiting to hear back.
