Teens arrested for stealing guns from Buffalo Naval Park

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A pair of Buffalo teens were arrested last Thursday for allegedly stealing handguns from the Buffalo Naval Park.

Police responded to a call of a burglary in progress at around 11:20 p.m. and found Abdikfi Saleh, 18, and Tyler Newman, 19, walking away from the scene on Oak Street “brandishing firearms,” a media release said.

Saleh and Newman were arrested, and police recovered two Colt 45 1911 handguns at the scene. The pistols were vintage and allegedly stolen from the USS Littlerock.

The teens were both charged with one count of second-degree burglary and one count of third-degree criminal possession of stolen property — both felonies — and a fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon charge.

Newman also has a separate pending criminal case where he allegedly forcibly stole property from a victim on June 30, 2023 in the Village of Springville, according to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office. Newman and a juvenile offender are accused of hitting and kicking the victim to steal his backup.

Saleh and Newman are scheduled to return to court Feb. 8 for a hearing and they were released on supervision despite prosecutors recommending they be remanded.
