SINGAPORE — Two 16-year-old male teenagers were arrested on Monday (17 April) for a toy-gun prank at a Yishun retail store.

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) said in a Facebook post on Tuesday that they had been alerted to the incident along Yishun Street 22 at 7.04am on Monday morning.

According to the post, one of the teenagers had allegedly taken out a toy gun and pointed it at the retail store staff while paying for an item at the cashier counter. This act occurred after the item had been scanned.

Meanwhile, the other teenager was allegedly recording the incident on mobile phone.

"Upon hearing the staff shouting, they started laughing and revealed that the gun was fake," the police said in the Facebook post.

"Preliminary investigations revealed that the teenagers had purportedly hatched a plan to scare the staff with the toy gun for fun."

The two teenagers were arrested for criminal intimidation within three hours of the incident, after they were identified by officers from the Woodlands Police Division through enquiries made on the ground and with the aid of closed-circuit television.

They seized the toy gun, the teenagers' attire and the mobile phone that was used to record the prank.

The police added in the Facebook post that they have "zero tolerance" towards acts that cause unnecessary alarm towards the general public.
