Teen's charitable organization helps feed hundreds of kids a week

For the past eight years, 18-year-old Kylee McCumber has made it her mission to fight childhood hunger. The cause is a personal one. "As I got older, my mom unfortunately became an addict, and that’s what her money went to," McCumber said. "It didn’t go to feeding us, so I grew up food insecure for half the week I was with her. " When she was 10, McCumber came up with the idea for the nonprofit “Kylee's Kare Kits for Kidz.” Her original goal was 10 kits a week for kids who don’t have enough food at home and on the weekends. With the help of volunteers, different organizations and donors, Kylee’s nonprofit now produces 500 kits a week. "All my friends are a part of it, my family is a part of it," McCumber said. "It’s something that I’ve made some of my best friends through this."
