Atlanta teens are learning to program robots, play chess and win money.

The Carver Family YMCA in southeast Atlanta has been hosting the event for weeks.
It’s a partnership with the city of Atlanta and a nonprofit called Chess and Community.

More than 30 young people are taking part in the 2023 Pawn Accelerator Program tournament.
Organizers say participants, learn how to code, plus a lot more.
“At the same time, they gain access to real skills as well as critical thinking,” Chess and Community member Lemuel “Life” Laroche said.

The best team effort wins the students a cash prize. They’ll also get a chance to spend some time with Mayor Andre Dickens.
