  • It looks like the Citroën Ami, a tiny electric car, is coming to the US as part of a new EV subscription service.

  • The PSA group launched Free2Move, a car sharing and subscription service company, in Europe.

  • After PSA merged with FCA to become Stellantis, Free2Move became part of the Stellantis Group.

Citroën’s Ami, the small EV that costs around $6,000, is coming to the US as part of new EV subscription service. Free2Move, a car-sharing and subscription service the PSA group launched in Europe, now falls under the Stellantis Group following the merger with FCA. For a monthly fee you get access to their vehicle fleet, including some Citroën and Peugeot EVs. Free2Move said its monthly price includes insurance, assistance, and maintenance and said it offers a flexible contract without commitment on duration. The service is available in Washington, DC, and will be in Portland and Los Angeles soon. Free2Move plans to service five other US states before the end of the year.

“We’re bringing some Amis to DC and Portland for testing via our Free2Move car sharing service,” a Free2Move official told Autoweek. “It’s a six month test, and is restricted since the vehicle is not homologated for the US.”

Free2Move said Stellantis’ Business Lab is launching the Los Angeles service. The Business Lab is responsible for finding opportunities into new business for Stellantis. It chose to launch in LA based on its size and “appetite for innovative mobility solutions,” Free2Move said. “With one of the highest penetration rates of luxury vehicle leases, Free2Move research pin-pointed Los Angeles as the logical launch market for Car On Demand,” the company said. Car On Demand starts at $699 per month and will, according to the company, “offer a variety of cars ranging from sedans to sport/utility vehicles accessed from a selection of brands including the Stellantis portfolio, such as Jeep, and other OEMs.”

Citroën’s Ami is just 94 inches long and 60 inches high. It has a 5.5 kWh battery pack and a 6 kW electric motor for about 44 miles of range. The little tike tops out at 28 mph, clearly limiting its use to city traffic. In fact in France it qualifies as a quadricycle and 14-year-olds can drive it, as we reported back in September. Renting it through Free2Move could be a hoot.
