Tekonsha girls secure first win of 2021-22, drops Will Carleton; LMS Cardinals finish 1-3 vs. Marshall

TEKONSHA — The Tekonsha Lady Indians wrapped up their first win of the 2021-22 season on Monday night, defeating Will Carleton by the score of 46-40.

Tekonsha trailed early, falling behind 12-5 after one quarter of play. Tekonsha came roaring back in the second period, outscoring Will Carleton 19-11 in the second quarter to take a slim 24-23 lead at the half.

Will Carlton came back to outscore Tekonsha 10-6 in the third period to take a small 33-30 lead heading to the final period of play only to see the Indians control the fourth quarter, outscoring Will Carleton 15-7 throughout the fourth to secure the 46-40 victory.

Freshman Reagan Henry led the Tekonsha scoring attack with 18 points while just missing a double-double with nine rebounds.

Emily Davis also hit double digits, pouring in 11 points to go along with six rebounds in the winning effort.

Madison Wrobel had an absolutely massive game on the boards, pulling down an amazing 17 rebounds in the contest, 10 on defense and seven on offense, while also adding two assists and six points scored.

Also adding to the Tekonsha victory was Alisha Shedd with six points, two rebounds, five assists and three steals; Carissa Shedd with four points, five rebounds and two assists; and Haley Owens with nine rebounds and one assist.

With the win Tekonsha improves to 1-2 on the young season.

Legg Middle School finishes 1-3 at Marshall

MARSHALL, MI. — The Coldwater Legg Middle School Cardinal boys basketball teams faced off with Marshall on Monday night for a four game Interstate 8 series.

In the eighth grade “A” game the LMS Cardinals suffered their first loss of the 2021 season, falling to Marshall by the score of 47-40, falling to 9-1 on the year.

Leading the Coldwater effort twas Jackson Reilly with 12 points; Julian Thompson with 10 points; Austin Downs with nine points; Gavin Taylor with seven points; and Owen Tappenden with two points.

In the eighth grade “B” game it was Marshall taking the big win, outscoring Coldwater 50-20.

Coldwater was led on the night by Michael Wright who recorded a double-double in the loss, scoring 10 points to go with 12 rebounds. Also adding to the eighth grade “B” game was Ben Utrecht with three points; Luke Stevens with three points; Cooper Coan with two points; Gage Filler with two points; and Kayden Wood with seven rebounds.

In the seventh grade “A” contest the Cardinals secured a big win, improving to 9-1 on the season with a 49-35 win over Marshall.

Leading the Coldwater effort was Dayton Ennis with 16 points and seven rebounds; Draycen Foster with 13 points, six steals and four assists; Manny Hernandez with seven points, six rebounds, and five steals; and Landon Dirschell with five assists.

In the seventh grade “B” game the LMS Cardinals dropped a heartbreaker by the score of 29-25.

Leading the way for Coldwater was Austin Stepp with eight points; Dylan Smith with seven points and four rebounds; Evan DePew with five rebounds; and Drew VanDerPuyl with three rebounds.

With the victory the LMS seventh grade “B” team improves to 2-8 on the season.

The LMS boys basketball program will next see action Wednesday when they travel to Parma Western.
