TEKONSHA, MI. — One thing is absolutely certain when it comes to 8-man football in the small burg of Tekonsha, and that is that the Indians can score and score big. Friday night the Tekonsha Indians raced out to a 44-0 lead early in the second quarter and never looked back as the rout was on, leading to the Indians rolling past North Adams-Jerome by the score of 84-12.

That was no typo either folks, the Indians did indeed score 84 points in a dominant victory that saw the home team score 36 points in the first quarter alone.

The scoring started on the very first play from scrimmage for Tekonsha as junior speedster Xander Kilbourn took his first hand off and sprinted 65 yards for a touchdown. Wyatt Blashfield ran in the two point conversion, giving the Indians the early 8-0 lead with 9:53 left in the first quarter.

Tekonsha went to the air for their next score as Blashfield found teammate Isaac Henry for a 17-yard touchdown pass. Kilbourn ran in the two point conversion, pushing the Tekonsha lead to 16-0 with 7:29 left in the quarter.

Wasting little time it was Kilbourn once again finding pay dirt for the Indians on their next possession, scoring on a 33 yard touchdown run. Blashfield ran in the two point conversion, extending the lead to 24-0 with 4:58 left in the first quarter.

Two more scores before the end of the first quarter put the game out of reach early as Blashfield again went to the air, this time finding Jake Boring for a 10 yard touchdown pass, followed by a 59 yard touchdown pass from Blashfield to Kyle Redd, bringing the score to 36-0 after one quarter of play.

Early in the second quarter the Indians pushed their lead to 44 points as again it was Blashfield going to the air, finding Kilbourn for a 62 yard touchdown pitch and catch, extending the lead to 44-0 after the two point conversion run by Kilbourn.

North Adams finally found the end zone on their next drive, hitting on a huge play as Casey Loper scored on an 85 yard touchdown run, closing the score to 44-6.

Tekonsha put the game well out of reach after that with a 34-0 run over the next two quarters of play, extending a huge lead.

The scoring started with a Blashfield 6 yard touchdown run, followed by another touchdown pass for Blashfield as he once again found Henry, this time for 27 yards. Kilbourn ran in the two point conversion, pushing the lead to 58-6 heading in to the half.

To kick off the second half it was Tekonsha receiving the kick off and again it didn’t take long to add to their lead. Kilbourn broke free and took the opening kick off 55 yards to the house for a touchdown. Kilbourn added the two point conversion, extending the Tekonsha lead to 66-6 with only 15 seconds gone in the third quarter.

Tekonsha once again added to their lead with back-to-back big runs, starting with a 43 yard touchdown scamper from Derek Booker, followed by a huge play as Kyier Reed broke free after a defensive stop, scoring on a 91 yard touchdown run, extending the Tekonsha lead to 78-6.

North Adams added one more score before the final horn, scoring on another long run from Loper, this time a 54 yard touchdown run, pushing the score to a 78-12 with 8:30 left in the game.

Tekonsha added one more score before the final buzzer as Kyle Redd took the ensuing kick off back 90 yards for a touchdown, finding the final score of 84-12.Senior Wyatt Blashfield continued his potential All-State season, this time doing most of his damage through the air, completing 7 for 10 passes for 223 yards and five touchdowns. Blashfield also added five rushes for 75 yards and a score.

Junior Xander Kilbourn ran behind big holes opened up by one of the best lines in the state, rushing the ball just three times for 106 yards and two touchdowns. Kilbourn also hauled in one catch for 62 yards and a score while also adding one kick return for 55 yards and a score.

Also adding to the Tekonsha rushing game was Derek Booker with three carries for 73 yards and a touchdown and Kyier Reed with one carry for 91 yards and a score.

Helping out in the passing game was Kyle Redd with one catch for 59 yards and a score; Jake Boring with three catches for 58 yards and a score; and Isaac Henry with two catches for 44 yards and two touchdowns.

Leading the Tekonsha defensive effort was Derek Booker with 10 total tackles, including three for a loss while teammate Claude Wart added seven tackles, three for a loss, one quarterback sack and one forced fumble.

Also adding to the Tekonsha defense was Emmitt Blashfield with five tackles, four for a loss; Brayden Packard with three tackles, one for a loss and one quarterback sack; Jake Boring with three tackles; Deyonte Gamble with six tackles; Anthony Carter with four tackles and one interception; Bryan Smith with six tackles and one fumble recovery; Kyle Redd with two tackles and two fumble recoveries; K. Reed with two forced fumbles; Newland with four tackles, one for a loss and one sack; and Ben Mead with four tackles, three for a loss and one sack.

With the loss North Adams falls to 1-5 overall on the season and 1-4 in the conference. The Rams will now host a solid Litchfield team looking to get back on track.

With the victory Tekonsha continues to roll, winning their fifth straight game in the process, improving to 5-1 overall on the season and 4-0 in league play. Tekonsha will next see action Friday when they make the trip to Burr Oak looking to extend their winning streak to six games.
