TEKONSHA, MI. — Wednesday’s SCAA conference matchup between the Tekonsha Indians and the Litchfield Terriers was everything one would want in a rivalry hoops battle and more. After 32 minutes of intense back and forth action the game still had no winner, meaning we were headed to overtime. In the extra period it was Tekonsha coming up clutch at the free throw line, giving the Indians the epic 55-52 victory.

The game was nip and tuck from the very beginning, with Tekonsha leading 10-9 after one quarter, a lead they would extend to 22-18 at the half.

The third quarter saw Litchfield battle right back, outscoring Tekonsha 13-7 to give the Terriers the slim 31-29 lead after three quarters of play. The two teams continued their back and forth battle into the fourth quarter, with Tekonsha going on to seemingly take control and build a modest five point lead with only a few moments left in the game.

Litchfield would not go away however, taking advantage of a few costly Tekonsha turnovers to claw their way back. The Terriers trailed by only three with less than 10 seconds left on the clock and looked to tie up the game as Tyler Bills got a wide open look at the bucket. In a much maligned call the Indians were called for a shooting foul on Bills, sending him to the line for three free throws to tie up the game. Bills hit all three, sending the game to extra time all tied up at 47-47.

Tekonsha buckled down and controlled the extra frame and thanks to clutch free throws from Claude Wart (3 of 4), Jake Boring (1 of 2), Wyatt Blashfield (2 for 2), Ashton White (1 for 2) and Blake Griffith (1 for 2) the Indians managed to outscore Litchfield 8-5 in overtime to take the 55-52 win.

Tekonsha saw four different players hit double figures, led by Isaac Henry with 14 points, seven assists, three steals and four rebounds. Senior Wyatt Blashfield added a double-double in the victory, scoring 10 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Blashfield also added one assist and two steals to the winning effort.

Also hitting double digits in the Tekonsha win was Blake Griffith with 12 points, five rebounds, two assists and one steal and Jake Boring with 10 points, five rebounds and three steals.

Also adding to the Tekonsha winning effort was Claude Wart with six points, three rebounds, one assist, and one steal; Collin Newland with two points and three rebounds; and Ashton White with one point and one rebound.

Litchfield had three players reach double digits, led by Jr Alvarez with 15 points, Tyler Bills wth 12 points, and Logan Buehrle with 12 points.

With the tough loss Litchfield falls to 8-4 overall on the season and 4-4 in the SCAA while Tekonsha improves to 6-5 overall on the season and 4-4 in the SCAA.
