Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine has been arrested in the Dominican Republic on domestic violence charges.

The New York native, whose real name is Daniel Hernández, was being held at a prison in Santo Domingo on Thursday ahead of a court appearance, where a judge is slated to decide whether he will remain behind bars or freed on bond. Officials confirmed the 27-year-old performer was taken into custody on Wednesday, but they did not provide additional details.

According to TMZ, the arrest stems from a domestic violence incident between Tekashi and his girlfriend, reggae singer Yailin la Mas Viral. He’s reportedly been accused of “physical and psychological violence against” Yailin.

It also comes just months after the “Fefe” singer was arrested in October for assaulting music producers at a seaside hotel in the Dominican Republic, where he and Yailin had been recording a song at the time.

His girlfriend, whose real name is Jeorjina Guillermo-Diaz, was also arrested last month after a domestic violence incident at the rapper’s home in Palm Beach, Fla. She allegedly attacked Tekashi and damaged his Bentley.

According to an arrest report obtained by NBC Miami, Tekashi told authorities that they had been arguing because she believed “that [Tekashi] had been looking at other women.”

He said he attempted to leave in a bid to give her space to “cool down,” at which point he alleged she started to hit him in the driveway of the home before turning her attention to his luxury vehicle.

Tekashi was also previously accused in the U.S. of weaponizing violent gang Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods and turning them into his own “personal hit squad.” He infamously provided testimony against members of the group in 2019, after he inked a cooperation agreement with federal prosecutors in the hopes of a receiving a reduced sentence for racketeering, weapons and drug trafficking charges.

The rapper initially faced a minimum of nearly 50 years in prison, but he was sentenced in 2019 to just two years behind bars. Tekashi, who has asthma, was put on house arrest a year later as the coronavirus pandemic swept the globe, and he finished his sentence in August 2020.
