Congrats to Isaac Huynh of Abby Kelley Foster Charter Public School, T&G Student of the Week

Isaac Huynh of Abby Kelley Foster Charter Public School has earned the honor of Telegram & Gazette Student of the Week.

The senior at the Worcester charter school collected 66% of the 582 votes submitted by readers.

He was nominated by the school because of his many accomplishments as a scholar and a citizen.

The school wrote: "Isaac consistently achieves high honors recognition in AKHS's full International Baccalaureate Program while managing multiple responsibilities. Isaac is regularly nominated for recognition as a community member who models the school's character virtues. His many academic accomplishments include a National Merit Scholarship Commendation and the National Latin Exam Magna Cum Laude 2022 and 2023."

We asked high school principals, teachers and guidance counselors to nominate students they say have shown outstanding school achievement and community service.

Besides Isaac, other students considered for Student of the Week were:

Sandro Bustos, Burncoat High School: Sandro, a senior, is on a journey that embodies resilience and determination. Despite facing adversity early in life, Sandro has emerged as a shining example of perseverance. Throughout his academic career, Sandro has excelled, earning recognition as a top-notch student. Sandro is enrolled in the Early College program and has taken advantage of numerous opportunities that the Worcester Public Schools has offered. His dedication to his studies and unwavering commitment to learning has set him up for acceptance into highly reputable business programs. Beyond his academic achievements, Sandro's positive attitude and leadership qualities have made him a respected figure within the school community.

Elyse McManus, Bancroft School: The senior from Holden became the state champion at the annual Massachusetts Speech & Debate League State Tournament at Catholic Memorial School. Elyse competed in the category of Impromtu — a public speaking event where students have seven minutes to select a topic, brainstorm their ideas, outline the speech and, finally, deliver the speech. The speech is given without notes and uses an introduction, body and conclusion. She was named the top in the category out of a competitive field of 48 students.
