What do you love about the Fox River Trail?

May it's that it extends for more than 26 miles along the Fox, from Porlier Street in Green Bay, south through Allouez, De Pere and Rockland, almost to Hilbert in Calumet County.

Or that there are few places where trail-users must cross a roadway or otherwise deal with motorized vehicles.

Or that sections are maintained in the winter, meaning runners and walkers can use it in all four seasons — even when other walking-spots are covered with snow or ice.

Or that many of the people who volunteer their time and effort to maintain the trail are some of the same people who use it for recreation.

The Green Bay Press-Gazette is looking to interview fans of the Fox River Trail for an upcoming story about the vision for its future.

The Friends of the Fox River Trail, the nonprofit group that supports and helps maintain some of those 26 miles, has kicked off a campaign to raise $300,000 toward a project, expected to begin in 2024 or 2025, to repave the path and add 3.4 miles to the trail into Greenleaf. Those donations would be added to other funding, such as the up to $50,000 The Green Bay Packers Foundation has pledged in matching funds.

The Friends group estimates the number of overall users at close to 3 million people in the trail's 20-plus years. Users have walked, biked, roller-bladed, cross-country skied or simply enjoyed a relaxing view of the river.
