Temecula Nordstrom Rack Saved From Permanent Closure
TEMECULA, CA — Last week, the upscale retailer Nordstrom announced plans to permanently shutter 16 of its full-line stores, but the Nordstrom Rack in Temecula is not part of the closures.
While the nearby Inland Empire Nordstrom stores at the Galleria at Tyler Mall in Riverside and Montclair Place in Montclair will be permanently closed, no IE Rack stores are on the current chopping block.
As of Monday morning, however, none of the local Rack stores were open despite Gov. Gavin Newsom's approval last week for some retailers to begin offering curbside transactions.
According to the company's website, there are seven Nordstrom Rack stores in the IE, including Chino, Ontario, Palm Desert, Redlands, Riverside, Temecula and Upland. It is not immediately clear whether any of the locations will begin curbside sales.
Permanent closure of the 16 full-line stores is blamed on the coronavirus shutdown. In an emailed statement to Patch, the company said, "Because of the impacts COVID-19 has had on our business, we need to take a critical look at the physical footprint of our stores to determine which we will continue to operate. To respond to the impacts of COVID-19 and ensure we’re able to continue serving customers well into the future, we will be closing 16 of our fleet of full-line stores, including Nordstrom Tyler ... and Nordstrom Montclair Place. We selected these 16 stores based on a variety of factors, including the unique needs of the market, the current state of our business and real estate agreements.
"We will not reopen these stores to the public and anticipate all 16 of these stores will be closed by August 2020," the statement continued. "These types of decisions are never easy because we realize what this means for our employees. We’re committed to taking care of them as best we can, including providing support and resources through this transition."
