Tempe Town Lake closes boating activities until further notice
Boating activities at Tempe Town Lake have been temporarily closed as water levels continue to rise due to recent storms and deeper than usual snowpack.
City of Tempe officials said in a statement on Thursday that since the Salt River Project has increased water releases from multiple reservoirs in the region to combat the storm and snowpack melt, increased debris such as tree branches are floating downstream into the lake.
"Out of an abundance of caution, the city has closed the lake to water recreation activities, including paddle boating, kayaking, standup paddleboarding, rowing and sailing," the city said in the statement.
Tempe Town Lake will be evaluated daily and activities will be reopened once deemed safe.
