Temple Sinai, Second Chance partner for Thanksgiving meals in Newtown; $9,000 for seabirds

A cool improvement

Members of the Rotary Club of Venice Suncoast, Venice-Nokomis Rotary Club, and Rotary Club of Englewood joined forces last week to support Habitat for Humanity's South Sarasota ReStore. Coupled with a matching grant from Rotary District 6960, the store received a new air-conditioning unit. “Our ReStore is a vital part of achieving our goal of providing housing to hard-working families,” South Sarasota County Habitat CEO Christina McCauley said. “Rotary has been a key donor to our ReStore and helps keep us functional and successful.” Visit habitatsouthsarasota.org and rotarydistrict6960.org.

Temple Sinai, Second Chance
partner for Thanksgiving dinner

Temple Sinai and Second Chance Last Opportunity are partnering on Sunday in Newtown to host their second special Thanksgiving meal for families in need. Temple members will prepare the food and deliver it to Second Chance that evening.

“Last year we prepared enough food to serve 100 people but we couldn’t provide the turkeys," Temple Sinai communications director Andrea Eiffert said. "This year, however, we received a generous grant from The Jewish Federation of Sarasota-Manatee and will be providing food for 300 people, including turkeys.”

Volunteers from Temple Sinai, 4631 S. Lockwood Ridge Road, will be serving the meal at the Women’s Center at Second Chance Last Opportunity, 1032 Colleton Drive (near the intersection of U.S. 301 and MLK Boulevard) at 5 p.m. Visit templesinai-sarasota.org and secondchancelastopportunity.org.

“This event ensures families struggling with food insecurity will have more than enough free, hearty and nutritious food this holiday,” Second Chance founder and CEO April Glasco said.
