Ten South Dakota businesses made the Inc. 5000 list, which names the fastest-growing private companies in the country.

The list is determined based on the percentage of revenue growth over a three-year period. To qualify, companies were required to be founded and generating revenue dating back to 2018. They also must be U.S.- based, privately held, for-profit and independent (not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies).

It first started as Inc. 500 in 1982, but expanded in 2007 to give "readers a deeper, richer understanding of the entrepreneurial landscape and capturing a broader spectrum of success."

Of the 5,000 businesses on the list, there was a median growth of 230% and a total of $317.5 billion in revenue. There were more than 1.17 million jobs created.

There were 2,915 repeat honorees on the list, and 695 of them businesses were newly-founded.

The South Dakota companies had an average of 340% growth, generating more than $274 million in total revenue and adding 224 jobs

BlockFi, a financial service company out of New Jersey was the top company on the list and had a growth rate of 245,616%.

Rising Hope Counseling

Vanilla Bean Kings is a South Dakota-based online store that provides vanilla beans from around the world to consumers, restaurants, breweries and wholesale clients, according to the Inc. 5000. The company started in 2015 and is led by Taylor Ernster. In the 2021 Inc. 5000 list, the company ranked in at 209.

Coop's Pretzels

For the second time in as many years, Coop's Pretzels made the Inc. 5000. Last year, the company ranked 680 on the list. The company started in 2015 and is led by Nolan Wiese, according to the Inc. 5000. Coop's Pretzels makes seasoned pretzels and other retail snacks and distributes across the country and Canada.

Lauriebelles
