Ten town positions and the Pilgrim power plant: Dennis town election May 10

DENNIS — Ten town positions and a call to halt potential radioactive water discharge in Cape Cod Bay are up for Dennis’ vote on Tuesday, May 10.

On the ballot are two Select Board members, one town moderator, one Dennis-Yarmouth School Committee member, one Old King’s Highway Regional Historic District Commission (OKHRHDC) member, one Dennis Housing Authority (DHA) member, three constables and one water district commissioner.

Voters will also be asked in a non-binding advisory whether they will call upon Holtec Pilgrim LLC, owner of the Pilgrim power plant and company in charge of its decommissioning, to immediately withdraw any and all plans to discharge about 1 million gallons of radioactively contaminated water into Cape Cod Bay.

The water district commissioner is the only contested position. Select Board, town moderator, School Committee, constable and water district commissioner are three-year terms. OKHRHDC and DHA positions are four- and five-year posts, respectively.

Who's running for office in Dennis?

Select Board:

  • Christopher Lambton: Lambton serves as the licensing chair on the Select Board and is seeking re-election.

  • James W. Plath: Plath serves as the chair of the finance committee and is seeking a spot on the board.

Town moderator: The town moderator presides over and regulates the town meeting.

  • Robert Chamberlain: Chamberlain is an attorney and is seeking re-election in the role.

Dennis Town Meeting: Wastewater upgrades, Pilgrim power plant, water bottle ban

Dennis-Yarmouth School Committee: The school committee is a seven-person group that meets twice-monthly. It presides over issues pertaining to the schools in the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School District.

  • Jeni Landers: Landers serves as chairperson of the DY School Committee and is seeking re-election.

Old King's Highway Regional Historic District Committee (OKHRHDC): The OKHRDC reviews applications for changes in construction or appearance along the Old King's Highway Regional District, the nation's oldest regional district that consists of the area above Route 6 from Sandwich to Orleans.

  • Kimery Holl-Canning: Holl-Canning serves on Dennis' OKHRHDC and is seeking re-election.

Dennis Housing Authority (DHA): The DHA provides resources for affordable housing in Dennis through collaboration with town, state and federal officials.

  • Regina Helen White: White serves as the chair of the DHA and is seeking re-election.

Constable: Constables are described by Massachusetts General Law as "keepers of the peace" and have the authority to serve in civil processes, such as serving warrants, demands or citations.

  • Wayne Bergeron: Bergeron serves as a constable and is seeking re-election.

  • Korrin Dean: Dean serves as a constable and is seeking re-election.

  • Gerald de Salvatore: De Salvatore serves as a constable and is seeking re-election.

Water district commissioner: The water district commissioner aids the Dennis Water District in its duties of supplying, overseeing and regulating water to the town of Dennis.

  • Paul R. McCormick Jr.: McCormick serves as chair of the planning board and is seeking a spot as water district commissioner.

  • Robert Michael Perry: Perry is the director of Cape Cod Engineering Inc. and is seeking the water district commissioner role.

  • Kent Morgan Sargent: Morgan Sargent is seeking the role of water district commissioner.

Dennis elections will be on May 10, 2022. Polls will open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.
