Tenet director Christopher Nolan has fully endorsed the idea of John David Washington one day playing the Green Lantern.

Speaking to Geeks of Color, Washington was asked if he'd be interested in taking on the role of the DC superhero in the future. However, instead of answering himself, he pointed to his Tenet director Nolan and said: "Ask him!"

The interviewer then reworked the question, asking Nolan: "Can we get a Nolan-directed Green Lantern movie, please?"

"I think my DC days are over," said Nolan in response, before adding: "I think [Washington] would be an excellent choice. He certainly gets my vote."

The last time the Green Lantern was given the live-action treatment on the big screen was for the 2011 debacle starring Ryan Reynolds, who regularly mocks the film himself (as you're probably well aware, he makes two separate gags about the movie's quality in Deadpool).

Since then, we've seen the Lanterns make a brief cameo in Justice League, although their background is yet to be fully explored.

While HBO Max is currently working on a new Green Lantern TV show, if Washington, or anyone for that matter, were to take on the role of John Stewart for a new Green Lantern movie, there would obviously be the option to place the film in the same universe as the Justice League.

However, given how most of the Worlds of DC films have turned out, perhaps distancing itself from the pack wouldn't be the worst idea.

Tenet is out now in UK and US cinemas.
