Tennessee AD Danny White congratulates Allen Greene for leaving 'crazy situation' at Auburn

Tennessee athletics director Danny White pulled no punches Friday on Twitter.

White commented on outgoing Auburn athletics director Allen Greene, a former co-worker of White who is stepping down from his post after four years on The Plains in a move announced by Auburn on Friday.

"Congratulations @AGreeneIV for getting the heck out of a crazy situation for greener pastures!" White tweeted. "I admire how you managed that chaos with class & integrity. Look forward to seeing your next chapter!"

White and Greene worked together at Buffalo; White was Buffalo's AD from 2012-15 while Greene was the deputy AD, and Greene was named Buffalo's AD following White's departure to UCF.

Greene is leaving Auburn in the final year of his contract, which would have expired Jan. 31, 2023 and made Greene a lame-duck administrator. In his four years at Auburn, he fired football coach Gus Malzahn and hired former Boise State coach Bryan Harsin as a replacement. Harsin was under investigation by the school in February after reports of a "divisive culture" in his first year in charge, but remained as head football coach at the investigation's conclusion.

Former Duke AD Kevin White, Danny's father, released a more formal statement Friday criticizing Auburn, calling the school "tone deaf".

"The apparent political dysfunction in Auburn is truly legendary!" Kevin White said. "More specifically, this particular leadership transition unequivocally ascends Auburn to the 'cat bird' seat, in terms of being tone deaf, nationally."
