Tennessee football adds offensive lineman Savion Herring to 2022 recruiting class

Tennessee football added another player to the 2022 recruiting class with the commitment of Savion Herring on Thursday.

Herring, a sophomore offensive lineman from Monroe College in New Rochelle, New York, picked Tennessee over a dozen other scholarship offers. He took an official visit to Knoxville this week and committed shortly after. Herring also took visits to Kansas, Syracuse, USF and Middle Tennessee State.

The 6-foot-4, 325-pound lineman played in five games last season. Herring will have at least two seasons of eligibility left, and told 247 Sports that he's petitioning to get his 2019 season at Iowa Central Community College classified as a redshirt season.

"I want to thank god first and foremost and every coach that gave me an opportunity to play at their university," Herring wrote on Twitter. "This process wasn't easy but I made the best choice for me."

Herring was originally committed to Cincinnati in 2018 as a standout from Irvington High School in New Jersey. Due to his academics he had to take the junior college route.

“Everybody that’s on the staff — assistant, (graduate assistants) or anything like that in that manner — everybody’s just been really great,” Herring told 247Sports. “They definitely have something special cooking up, so this season will be exciting to see.

“Everything checked out exactly how I thought. And then for me, just visiting an SEC school, they’re all pretty much the same. It’s really the people that make the difference, and that was pretty good.”
