Tennessee football landed three-star safety John Slaughter of Southaven (Mississippi) High School on Saturday after his visit on Friday.

“They made me feel like I’m at home, so just the love (stood out),” Slaughter told 247Sports. “And I feel like it was the place for me to be, so I just pulled the trigger on it.”

The Vols offered Slaughter, the No. 61 safety in the 2023 class and the No. 13 recruit in Mississippi according to 247Sports Composite, in June 2021, and they emerged as favorites after his visit in January. The 6-foot-1, 194-pound Slaughter had offers from 13 schools, including Florida State, Kentucky, Mississippi State and Ole Miss.

Slaughter said Tennessee sees him “getting on the field soon.”

“… I could be potentially a first-day starter, get on the field as quick as possible — just get playing time, at least — because I’m versatile, and I could play any one of those positions they talked to me about,” he told 247Sports.
