Tennessee football surges into top 10 after win over Florida

Tennessee football will go into its off week as a top 10 team.

The Vols (4-0, 1-0 SEC) are ranked No. 8 in the AP Top 25 poll, their highest spot since November 2006. And they are ranked No. 9 in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll.

They moved up three spots in both polls, which were released Sunday.

Tennessee climbed the polls after beating Florida 38-33 Saturday. The Gators (2-2, 0-2) were ranked at the time, so it was the Vols' second win over a Top 25 team this season. They also won at Pittsburgh.

This marks the first time Tennessee has been ranked in the top 10 in either poll since 2016. That year, it started 5-0 and climbed as high as No. 9 before losing back-to-back games to Texas A&M and Alabama.

The Vols will have time to savor their win over Florida with an off week. They play at LSU (3-1, 1-0) on Oct. 8.
