Tennessee football vs. Georgia: Our final score predictions are in

Tennessee defensive lineman/linebacker Byron Young (6) after sacking Kentucky quarterback Will Levis during Tennessee's game against Kentucky at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tenn., on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2022.

Tennessee football will face Georgia in one of most-anticipated SEC matchups of the season.

After ranking in the top four slots to make the College Football Playoff, both teams will battle to stay on top. The Vols are coming off a domination win over Kentucky while the Bulldogs defeated the Florida Gators 42-20.

While the Georgia offense is on a hot streak, the Bulldogs will be tested by the Tennessee defense. The Vols held Kentucky to only 98 passing yards with 107 rushing yards, and made three interceptions. A win for Tennessee will keep the Vols on top of the SEC and continue the journey to the CFP.

Tennessee 38, Georgia 34: Logic says Georgia wins a close one. After all, the Bulldogs have a dominant defense and really good offense. The Vols have the No. 1 offense, but their defense isn't near an elite level. But the momentum of Tennessee is just too hard to ignore. The Vols have dictated the tone of every game, and I'm betting this is no exception. In a back-and-forth battle, the last big play will decide it. A win puts Tennessee on the path to SEC title game and College Football Playoff. But the loser has a reasonable chance for a CFP bid, as well.

Tennessee 38, Georgia 34: The focus is Tennessee's offense against Georgia's defense. But UT's defense is rising and it will do enough to pair with the offense for another marquee win.

Blake Toppmeyer, SEC columnist

Georgia 42, Tennessee 38: The nation’s best offense meets the nation’s most well-rounded team. (Well, maybe. It’s either Georgia or Ohio State for that latter distinction). Georgia won’t mount the same pass rush as it did last season, but fortunately for the Bulldogs, their secondary is loaded. They’ll be tested like never before, though, by Hendon Hooker and his complement of talented receivers. If this game were at Neyland Stadium, I’d pick the Vols, but home-field advantage is worth a few points. Tennessee has a path to victory, though, if it rattles Stetson Bennett, or if its offense lights up Georgia like it did against Alabama. Bryce Young led the Crimson Tide to 49 points to nearly keep up with the Vols. I don’t think Bennett can match Young’s performance, but I like Georgia’s defense to slow Hooker and Co. just enough.

John Adams, Senior sports columnist

Tennessee 41, Georgia 31: The Bulldogs have a great defense, and Kirby Smart is a great defensive coach. We have been hearing that since last season, and for good reason.

Alabama and Saban also have a terrific reputation for defense. At least, they did until Tennessee scored 52 points on them.

Good defenses have gone bad quickly and repeatedly against Tennessee’s up-tempo offense.

No. 1 Georgia has a better secondary than Alabama. That should help its chances of slowing down UT’s quick-strike passing game. But it doesn’t have quarterback Bryce Young, whose brilliant play kept the Tide in contention against the Vols in a 52-49 game.

UT’s defense, which was at its best against Kentucky, will impede Georgia’s running game and pressure quarterback Stetson Bennett into just enough mistakes. UT’s offense will do the rest as the Vols ascend to No. 1.
