Tennessee football win over Alabama is most-watched game of season and in series history

Tennessee football's last-second win over Alabama on Saturday brought in massive TV numbers for CBS, as the Volunteers beat their rival for the first time since 2006.

The game brought in 11.557 million viewers, making it the most-watched college football game of the season on any network. Alabama's win over Texas in Week 2 and Ohio State's Week 1 victory over Notre Dame, both with around 10.5 million viewers, are the only other two games this year to cross the 10 million viewer threshold.

The number of viewers is the most in the history of the Alabama-Tennessee rivalry since records started being kept in 1987. The game peaked at 17 million viewers, making it the most-watched college football game on CBS since the Alabama-LSU matchup in 2019, which peaked at 16.712 million viewers.

The Volunteers (6-0, 3-0 SEC) won 52-49 on a last-second field goal by Chase McGrath after the Crimson Tide (6-1, 3-1) missed a field goal of its own.

The second-most watched game of Week 7 was the other top-10 matchup, Penn State vs. Michigan, which drew 6.453 million viewers in the "Big Noon Kickoff" slot on Fox. The top-15 Big 12 matchup of Oklahoma State and TCU brought in 2.1 million viewers.
