How do Tennessee football's mobile tickets work? Get details before you go to Neyland Stadium

Tennessee football is back with the first game of the season against Ball State, and if you're heading to Neyland Stadium on Thursday, there's one thing you need to get in: your phone.

Tennessee has gone completely paperless with digital tickets and parking passes. Fans must download their individual ticket's QR code to their smartphone, and ticket staff will scan them at the gate.

For those who have used services like Ticketmaster, StubHub or other mobile ticketing options, the change might be an easy shift. But for anyone who's used to having that physical paper ticket, the new system might take some getting used to.

Here's what you need to know about the new ticket process before you make your way to Neyland Stadium.

Alicia Longworth, Tennessee's executive associate athletics director of external operations, demonstrates the new digital ticketing system at Neyland Stadium. No paper tickets will be accepted this year, and fans are encouraged to get their tickets ready before going to the game.

How do you buy Tennessee football tickets?

Tickets can be purchased at allvols.com or by calling the Tennessee Athletics ticket office at 865-656-1200 or 800-332-VOLS.

Where can I download the Tennessee Athletics app?

You can download the Tennessee Athletics app on your phone through the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.

Can I just print out my ticket?

No. Unlike some venues that use mobile ticketing options, you can't print out your mobile ticket for entry into Neyland Stadium. According to Tennessee Athletics, print-at-home PDF tickets are no longer issued or accepted for entry at any Tennessee Athletics events.

When should I get the Tennessee Athletics app?

Make sure you download your tickets so you don't hold up the line at Neyland Stadium.
Make sure you download your tickets so you don't hold up the line at Neyland Stadium.

Download it right now. Cell service on gamedays can be spotty with so many fans gathered in one place. The last thing you want is to miss the kickoff because you're stuck outside the stadium waiting for your ticket to download.

It's highly recommended that you download the Tennessee Athletics app (where you can access your tickets) before you leave your house to cheer on the Vols. You can download the app anytime, and use the option to add the tickets to your phone's mobile wallet at least 48 hours before the game.

Once you've added the tickets to your mobile wallet, you should be able to access them quickly, even if you have spotty service or no internet at all. (You can even test this by putting your phone in airplane mode and opening your ticket.)

Can I screenshot my ticket?

No. Tennessee Athletics uses Ticketmaster as its mobile ticketing service, and its barcodes use special technology to keep them secure. Because of this, screenshots of your ticket won't work.

If you're used to taking a screenshot of your ticket to avoid the headache of spotty service or WiFi, adding your tickets to your mobile wallet allows you to access them without cell service.

Bought tickets for the group? You can either add all the tickets to your mobile wallet and enter the stadium together, or transfer the individual tickets directly to your friends.

Can I transfer my tickets through the app?

Remember the days when you could walk up to Neyland Stadium and buy paper tickets from a stranger? Those days are over.

Yes! Meeting people at the game, but you have all the tickets? Skip the hassle of a meeting spot outside the stadium and transfer the individual tickets to your friends' phones. You can do this inside the Tennessee Athletics app (that you've already downloaded, right?).

Double-check the person you're transferring the ticket to is the right person. You can only reclaim the tickets if they haven't already been accepted by the recipient.

Your friend also must download the Tennessee Athletics app and log into the All Vols Account Manager. If they've purchased any tickets through Ticketmaster before, they can log in using that information. Otherwise, they'll need to sign up for an account. (They can use this account to purchase any tickets on Ticketmaster in the future.)

What If I'm having trouble with my Tennessee football tickets?

Tennessee has put together step-by-step guides to managing your tickets, sharing them, downloading them and more. Look for the Digital Ticketing Guide at utsports.com

Will other Tennessee sports use digital tickets?

Yes. Digital ticketing is for all Tennessee athletic events – not just football. You'll want to keep the app downloaded for basketball and baseball season, too.

What else do I need to know?

Make sure your phone is charged before you go to the game. Consider bringing a phone charger.

Have your ticket displayed and ready to be scanned before entering the stadium.

Turn up your phone's brightness before showing the ticket staff your phone.
