It's the third time Tennessee has played in the Jimmy V Classic. In 2002, Tennessee lost to top-ranked Duke in a No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup. In 2004, No. 1 Tennessee beat an unranked NC State.

The men's classic was started in 1995 and the women's event began in 2002. The games are also part of ESPN's V Week when broadcasts raise awareness about cancer research. Over $155 million has been raised by ESPN for the V Foundation.

Besides Virginia Tech, the Lady Vols' only other announced nonconference matchup for next season isUConn. A time and date for the matchup has yet to be announced.
