Tennessee State football schedule for 2022 includes return to Hale Stadium

The Tennessee State football team will return to Hale Stadium for at least one game this season.

The Tigers, who played all their home games at Nissan Stadium in 2021 under first-year coach Eddie George, will play on campus in their home opener Oct. 1 against Lane College.

In the 2020 season, which was played in the spring of 2021 because of COVID-19, TSU played all of its home games at Hale Stadium.

A decision about the total number of home games the Tigers play at Hale Stadium this season has not yet been made. They have four other home games and two will be played at Nissan Stadium.

TSU, which went 5-6 in 2021, opens the season Sept. 3 at FCS power Eastern Washington. The Eagles posted a 10-3 record and advanced to the second round of the FCS playoffs.

The second game will be against Jackson State in the Southern Heritage Classic at the Liberty Bowl in Memphis. Jackson State, under coach Deion Sanders, has won the last two games in the series.

TSU will play at Middle Tennessee State on Sept. 17. The Blue Raiders, coming off a Bahamas Bowl victory over Toledo, beat TSU 45-26 in 2019.

After a bye on Sept. 24 and the game against Lane on Oct. 1, TSU will return to Nissan Stadium on Oct. 8 for homecoming against Bethune-Cookman. It will be the first time the Tigers have played another HBCU team for homecoming since 2014 when they played Florida A&M.

TSU opens Ohio Valley Conference play on Oct 15 at Tennessee Tech.

The Tigers have a home game on Oct. 22 against Eastern Illinois with the venue to be determined, then travel to Murray State on Oct. 29.

TSU will play at home Nov. 5 against Southeast Missouri with the venue to be determined and return to Nissan Stadium Nov. 12 against UT Martin.

The last game will be Nov. 19 at Texas A&M Commerce. That game is part of the new OVC/Southland Conference scheduling alliance.

Kickoff times will be announced at a later date.
