The Tennessee Titans are releasing linebacker Zach Cunningham after an injury-limited second season in Nashville for the former Vanderbilt standout, the team announced Wednesday afternoon.
Cunningham came to the Titans toward the end of the 2021 season, shortly after being waived by the Houston Texans. But recurring injuries limited Cunningham in 2022, his first full season with the Titans, when he was only able to play in six games, making just 24 tackles.
By releasing Cunningham, the Titans will save $8.9 million against the salary cap for 2023. Cunningham is the fourth player the Titans cut Wednesday, joining offensive tackle Taylor Lewan, wide receiver Robert Woods and kicker Randy Bullock.

Cunningham excelled in his four games with the Titans in 2021, making 26 tackles with three tackles for loss. He couldn't repeat the success in 2022 when a recurring elbow issue landed him on injured reserve twice. Cunningham was a consensus All-America linebacker at Vanderbilt in 2016 before turning pro and played parts of five seasons with the Texans before signing with the Titans.
Linebacker is a position where the Titans have plenty of other decisions to make this offseason. David Long and Dylan Cole, the Titans' two primary starters in 2022, are both unrestricted free agents.
