Which Tennessee Titans rookies will have biggest impact in 2022? Here's our best guess

The Tennessee Titans got their first on-field look at their NFL draft class during rookie minicamp Friday and Saturday.

What did the two-day event tell us about which rookies will have the biggest impact next season?

Here’s The Tennessean’s rankings of expected 2022 contributions from the rookie class, in ascending order:

LB Chance Campbell, sixth round

In a deep inside linebacker room, led by Zach Cunningham and David Long Jr., defensive snaps will be hard to come by for Campbell. But if the former Ole Miss standout develops into a strong special teams player, he’ll have a place on the Titans’ roster.

QB Malik Willis, third round

Willis, the Titans’ most talked about rookie and potential quarterback of the future, will sit behind veteran incumbent Ryan Tannehill in 2022. Barring an injury to Tannehill or a drastic regression, Willis’ snaps will come in garbage time or potential packages featuring the former Liberty star.

RB Hassan Haskins, fourth round

Derrick Henry is expected to re-establish himself as the Titans’ bell-cow running back. But after a foot injury forced him to miss more than half of last season, Tennessee could be more cognizant of spelling him throughout the 2021 season. Haskins, who played at Michigan, should be Henry’s lead backup.

TE Chig Okonkwo, fourth round

Okonkwo figures to be the No. 3 option behind free-agent acquisition Austin Hooper and veteran Geoff Swaim as a rookie. While the former Maryland standout is an athletic, vertical threat as a tight end, he must improve as a blocker to become a future No. 1 option for the Titans.

DB Theo Jackson, sixth round

Despite being a late-round pick, Jackson could play a key role on defense as a rookie. The former Tennessee Vols standout is a versatile and taller/longer defensive back who could match up with tight ends similar to how Dane Cruikshank did for the Titans last season.

The Nashville native showed an ability to make plays on the ball at rookie minicamp, intercepting Willis in a team period.

OT Nicholas Petit-Frere, third round

Petit-Frere may not start as a rookie, but he should provide versatility and competitive depth to an offensive line that needs significant improvement in pass protection. The third-rounder played right and left tackle at Ohio State. Don’t rule out the Titans trying him out at guard, too.

CB Roger McCreary, second round

Whether 2021 first-rounder Caleb Farley is healthy for Year 2, McCreary should have a significant role. The cornerback play must improve (Tennessee ranked 25th in passing defense last season) and the Titans love McCreary’s potential in man coverage.

WR Kyle Philips, fifth round

As a slot receiver, Philips fills a position of need and was a prolific punt returner at UCLA, a role he could also fill for the Titans. The fifth-round rookie was arguably the biggest standout at Titans’ rookie minicamp. He got in and out of breaks well during drills and flashed shiftiness in team periods, making a handful of nice catches.

WR Treylon Burks, first round

A slow start at rookie minicamp won’t change expectations for Burks. Ideally, the former Arkansas star is a top-two receiver for the Titans in Year 1.
