Recap: Tennessee Titans hold on, move to 2-2 with fourth straight win over Colts

The Tennessee Titans hope to score another win and move their record to .500 as they head into their first AFC South Division game Sunday (Fox, noon) at the Indianapolis Colts.

Tennessee (1-2) is coming off a 24-22 win over the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 3, and the Colts (1-1-1) also picked up their first win last week when they beat the Kansas City Chiefs, 20-17.

The Titans defeated the Colts twice last season, winning 25-16 at Nissan Stadium and 34-31 in overtime in Indianapolis. The Colts' last win over the Titans came on Nov. 12, 2020, when they won 34-17.

It's a big game in the AFC South standings. Jacksonville is leading the division at 2-1, while the Colts and Titans are trailing. Tennessee has won the AFC South the past two years; Indianapolis is trying to win it for the first time since 2014.

Fourth quarter

FINAL: Titans 24, Colts 17.

28 total yards for the Titans in the second half, but the big lead holds up. Denico Autry's three sacks were huge. Colts outgain the Titans 365-243, but the Titans move to 2-2.

1:42 left: Chig Okonkwo first down catch. Game over. Titans will survive another second half filled with poor execution on both sides of the ball.

1:59 left: Frank Reich had a tough decision to make there. 4th and 21, down by 7 with the two-minute warning upcoming.

Instead of trying a heave on 4th down, the Colts kick a field goal. Chase McLaughlin's 51-yard field goal was well wide left. Colts have all three timeouts. No good decisions, but a field goal does little for the Colts there. They still would have needed a touchdown and a stop.

Anyway. Titans ball, and a first down away from a victory.

2:45 left: Denico Autry has been the Titans' pass rush today. Sack No. 3 on third down, a huge play.

4:41 left: Alec Pierce adjusts to an underthrow and beats Caleb Farley for a 44-yard catch.

4:57 left: Ryan Tannehill is sacked on third down by a trio of Colts. Punt time.

8:40 left: Jonathan Taylor fighting for a first down in Titans territory and fumbles. Titans recover. Kristian Fulton recovers. What a huge play.

13:13 left: A third three-and-out in three second half drives for the Titans offense.

Also, Treylon Burks is down.

15:00 left: Instead, coming out of the quarter break, the Colts punt. Interesting call. Frank Reich has been conservative today. Would have been a 57 or 58-yard field goal.

Third quarter

1:07 left: Denico Autry's second strip-sack of Matt Ryan, but the Colts recover. That was nearly the game-changing play the Titans needed.

Still halts the drive. Colts may try a long field goal.

1:54 left: David Long TFL.

4:21 left: Matt Ryan finds Ashton Dulin for a first down into Titans territory. Ryan has not been pressured in a while now.

5:46 left: Titans with another three-and-out. Ryan Tannehill had to get the receivers sorted out with the play clock rolling down on third down, and they didn't all get set. Incomplete pass, illegal shift penalty declined, punt.

Not good. Titans really need a defensive stop here.

Colts have scored 14 unanswered, Titans lead down to 24-17

7:26 left: Touchdown Colts, and it's Mo Alie-Cox again on a crossing route for the TD catch.

That was way too easy. Titans 24, Colts 17.

8:42 left: First-and-goal, Colts. Titans pass rush without Bud Dupree is an issue.

10:43 left: Matt Ryan connects with Alec Pierce on the back-shoulder fade, and the Colts are now inside the Titans' 35.

12:37 left: Titans go three-and-out with a sack allowed and a false start penalty thrown in. Not a good start to the second half for an offense that has struggled in the second half this year.

14:58 left: Derrick Henry over 100 yards. He's been very good today.

Second quarter

Titans waste chance for more points at end of first half

HALFTIME: Titans 24, Colts 10.

That was an abject failure by the Titans in the final seconds of the second quarter. Tannehill, instead of throwing the ball away, tries to scramble and goes down at the Colts' 25 with no timeouts to stop the clock. Mike Vrabel hesitates, then calls for the field goal team to run onto the field with less than 15 seconds left. The snap came after the clock struck 0:00, and the Titans weren't set anyway.

The Titans better hope those three points won't be necessary in two quarters. A wasted chance.

1:13 left: Derrick Henry rushes may just be the Titans' two-minute offense. It's working.

Colts' TD as Indy tries to keep up

2:13 left: Touchdown Colts. Mo Alie-Cox runs away from a couple Titans defenders on a crossing route and beats Dylan Cole to the pylon. 13-yard touchdown catch.

Titans 24, Colts 10.

4:34 left: Jonathan Taylor leans forward for a first down as the Colts move into scoring range. Matt Ryan has made a couple good throws while on the move on this drive.

Chig Okonkwo's first NFL TD puts Titans ahead 24-3

7:40 left: Touchdown Chig Okonkwo! His first NFL touchdown as Tannehill fires the pass and the fourth-rounder out of Maryland threads in between two Colts defenders to fall into the end zone.

It's a dominant first half for the Titans.

Titans 24, Colts 3.

9:34 left: Teair Tart interception! Tart gets the deflection of Matt Ryan's first down pass and dives for the interception.

Titans defense thriving against Matt Ryan, who has been willing to turn the ball over with the Colts through four games.

This could get out of hand.

9:44 left: Another good Titans drive, but a couple incomplete passes including a third down miss of an open Treylon Burks by Tannehill stalls the drive.

44-yard field goal by Randy Bullock is good. Titans 17, Colts 3.

13:28 left: Couple close toe taps on second and third down result in incomplete passes. The Colts will kick the short field goal, which is a choice. 27-yard field goal is good by Chase McLaughlin.

Titans 14, Colts 3.

First quarter

End of the first quarter: Matt Ryan is starting to have some time, and he waited a while for Parris Campbell to get open over the middle. Colts are driving.

Derrick Henry TD run extends Titans' early lead

3:46 left: Vintage Derrick Henry, with the backside cutback for 19 yards and the touchdown. That was the third of three chunk plays on a 6-play, 75-yard drive, including a Chig Okonkwo 23-yard catch and a Henry 22-yard catch-and-run reception.

The Titans' offense is carving this Colts' defense up. Tennessee 14, Indianapolis 0.

7:05 left: A quick three-and-out for the Colts offense. Titans' rush defense looks good so far today.

Robert Woods was the punt returner and cleanly fair-caught the Colts' punt.

Elsewhere, Jags 14, Eagles 0.

8:00 left: Touchdown Titans! It's Robert Woods with a 7-yard touchdown off play action. He was WIDE open.

Extra point good. Titans 7, Colts 0.

9:17 left: Ryan Tannehill sprints for a first down on 3rd and long. Pocket opened up for Tannehill to scramble inside the Colts' 20.

Matt Ryan's sack and fumble ends Colts first drive, gives Titans great field position

10:56 left: Matt Ryan is sacked and fumbles. Denico Autry with the sack, Bud Dupree with the recovery.

Ryan did a really poor job in protecting the ball. His eighth fumble in four games this year. Titans with very good field position, at the Colts' 31.

11:04 left: Denico Autry penalized for illegal hands to the face on third down to extend the Colts' drive.

12:50 left: Colts have already picked up a couple first downs on their first drive. Matt Ryan found Kylen Granson over the middle on 3rd and long to reach midfield and keep the drive alive.

Coin toss: Titans win toss and defer. Colts will receive the opening kickoff.

Pregame

It's a big game in the AFC South today in Indianapolis. Both teams have one win through three weeks. The Jaguars look like they may play some type of factor in the division. The Titans and Colts can't fall too far behind .500.
