Recap: Titans fumble away AFC South in Jacksonville

After 17 weeks, the battle between the Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars for the AFC South championship comes down to one matchup.

The Titans (7-9) will try to score their third straight AFC South title with a win against the Jaguars (8-8) at TIAA Bank Field on Saturday (7:15 p.m., ABC/ESPN). A Titans win puts coach Mike Vrabel's squad in the playoffs for the fourth year in a row, but a Jaguars win eliminates the Titans from postseason contention and secures Jacksonville its first playoff berth since 2017.

The turning point for both teams came Dec. 11, when the Jaguars bested the Titans 36-22. The Jaguars haven't lost since that day and are outscoring their opponents 126-62, while the Titans are being outscored 99-63 since the loss to Jacksonville.

Fourth quarter

FINAL: Jaguars 20, Titans 16.

1:37 left: Dobbs takes a couple checkdowns, and the fourth-down pass to Hassan Haskins is well short of the line to gain. Jaguars will win. This will be a bitter, bitter loss to end a bitterly disappointing season for these Tennessee Titans.

1:45 left: Josh Allen sack. Dobbs fumbles but recovers it.

2:00 left: Titans at midfield for two-minute warning.

2:44 left: Dobbs carries for 10 on first down.

Joshua Dobbs sacked and fumbled, Josh Allen returns for TD

2:51 left: There's the major mistake. Dobbs is sacked, fumbled and the ball is returned by Josh Allen for the TD.

Rayshawn Jenkins with the strip sack. It was close, but hand was empty as it went forward. Jaguars 20, Titans 16.

3:36 left: Henry now at 29 carries for 101 yards.

5:55 left: Derrick Henry 10-yard run.

6:35 left: Jonathan Ward breaks a tackle and converts the third down. Jonathan Ward!

8:19 left: Lawrence throws long and wide on third down. Jaguars have been one-dimensional, and now the Titans are impacting Trevor Lawrence. Jaguars punt.

Starting to feel like the Titans are in the driver's seat, pending a major mistake on offense or special teams.

9:40 left: Teair Tart sack on first down. Jaguars have been helping out Titans pass rush with these rollouts.

10:32 left: Dobbs' third down pass is complete to Robert Woods, but short of the line to gain. Titans punt. Jaguars to start on their own 34.

11:34 left: How about now for the Derrick Henry-exclusive drive? He's at 24 carries for 87 yards.

11:43 left: Rashad Weaves bats Lawrence's third down pass away. Jaguars three-and-out.

12:27 left: Jamal Agnew returns a good Ryan Stonehouse punt across the Jags' 40. Big, big, big drive for the Titans defense upcoming.

13:15 left: Titans three-and-out, as Travon Walker flushes Dobbs out of the pocket. Sack credited to Roy Robertson-Harris. Walker also had a TFL on the second down play.

14:41 left: This drive could (should?) feature a large helping of Derrick Henry.

14:54 left: Lawrence again misses a TD, underthrowing Kirk. Lawrence stepped right into Jeffery Simmons' pressure to force the underthrow.

Riley Patterson is good from 36 yards out. Titans 16, Jaguars 13.

Jaguars have made a lot of mistakes and are still in this game. It doesn't feel like the Titans offense can afford another one.

Third quarter

41 seconds left: Felt like the Titans offense could not make big mistakes in this second half. Dobbs well underthrows a deep ball on 3rd and 16, and Tyson Campbell picks it off. He returns the ball inside the Titans' 30. Not good at all.

He was trying for Treylon Burks there, and there was nothing for the rookie to do. Looks like a missed blindside block by the Jaguars on the return.

1:47 left: Okonkwo holding penalty negates a 36-yard Henry run. Henry did fumble out of bounds at the end of the play.

3:13 left: TE screen to Chig Okonkwo for a first down and some room to work.

4:10 left: Titans finally pressure Lawrence on third down, and he throws it away. Jags punt.

Titans defense has allowed 18 rushing yards on 10 attempts.

5:08 left: Lawrence to Kirk for 32 yards to start the Jacksonville drive. Titans defense blitzed two LBs to no avail there.

6:07 left: Dobbs chased, hit on third down. Incomplete.

Randy Bullock's 41 yard field goal is good. Titans 16, Jaguars 10.

Titans are holding on, but the defense needs a stop.

7:14 left: Dobbs has time on third down, and he finds Robert Woods over the middle to convert. Titans driving.

8:08 left: Derrick Henry pass upfield to Chig Okonkwo turns into defensive pass interference.

Trevor Lawrence missed TD leads to Jaguars field goal

10:14 left: Lawrence misses a wide open Zay Jones in the end zone on third down. Wow.

Riley Patterson is good from 26 yards out. Huge missed opportunity for the Jaguars. Titans defense bends, but doesn't break. Cliche, and things of that nature.

Titans 13, Jaguars 10.

10:54 left: Lawrence to Marvin Jones for 21.

11:12 left: Lawrence finds Kirk on 3rd and 7. Titans been blitzing on this drive, but nothing on Lawrence.

Tre Avery in coverage on Kirk. Jaguars inside the Titans' 35.

15:00 left: Feels like a huge drive upcoming. A Jaguars score keeps them in length. A Titans stop and score could be the ballgame.

Second quarter

HALFTIME: Dobbs keeps the RPO and is sacked. Randy Bullock's 39-yard field goal is good.

Titans 13, Jaguars 7. Tennessee with 196 yards in the first half. Dobbs was 12 of 15 for 114 yards and a TD.

35 seconds left: Dobbs to Hooper over the middle for 14. Titans' two tight ends at six catches for 69 yards in this half.

57 seconds left: Dobbs scrambles into Jacksonville territory. Then a Henry run for a few.

Henry at 16 carries for 63 yards.

1:50 left: Dobbs to Hooper for 10 yards on 3rd and 9. Jaguars defense struggling with the Titans tight ends.

Jaguars on the board with Christian Kirk TD

2:36 left: Touchdown Jaguars. Lawrence play-action pass to Christian Kirk, who is well past Roger McCreary. 25-yard TD catch. Titans pass rush again silent.

Titans 10, Jaguars 7.

3:18 left: Seems like Lawrence and the Jaguars can get whatever they want on third down over the middle.

5:24 left: Jamal Agnew returns the kickoff from well inside the end zone to midfield. Can't let that happen again if you're the Titans.

Chig Okonkwo TD catch puts Titans up 10

5:32 left: Touchdown Titans! Dobbs to Chig Okonkwo down the left sidelines at the pylon. 21-yard TD catch.

PAT good. Titans 10, Jaguars 0. Can't ask for more from this team through 25 minutes.

9:15 left: First play after turnover is a Derrick Henry screen for 19 yards.

9:22 left: Titans ball! Jaguars try a reverse pitch, with Lawrence pitching to a reversing Jamal Agnew. It never makes it to Agnew. Rashad Weaver recovers the ball. Wasted opportunity for the Jags, and the Titans defense will take it.

11:27 left: Lawrence to Kirk for a first down on 3rd and 13. Titans pass rush not impacting the game yet.

13:30 left: Lawrence to Travis Etienne for a first down into Titans territory.

First quarter

Titans long drive ends in a field goal

1:30 left: Treylon Burks makes the catch on 3rd and 15, then tries to throw a lateral that is clearly forward. What in the world.

Titans on the board, though. Randy Bullock is good from 51 yards out. Ends a 17-play, 51-yard drive.

Titans 3, Jaguars 0.

1:51 left: Dennis Daley holding negates a Josh Dobbs scramble for a first down. Yikes.

3:53 left: Another 4th and 3 conversion, with Robert Woods catch-and-run inside the Jags' 25.

6:34 left: After Derrick Henry hands off to Racey McMath for a modest gain, Dobbs has to throw the ball away on 3rd and 3 near midfield.

Titans are going for it on 4th and 3, and Dobbs finds Hooper for a first down inside the Jags' 40.

9:54 left: Titans go RPO on 3rd and 2, and Dobbs finds Chig Okonkwo for the first down.

11:37 left: Zay Jones falls short of the first down, and the Jaguars' first drive stalls at their own 34-yard line.

13:29 left: Titans go three-and-out, as Joshua Dobbs' third-down throw is low after pressure.

15:00 left: Jaguars win the toss, defer. Here comes the Titans offense.

Pregame: Treylon Burks, Amani Hooker active

Treylon Burks and Amani Hooker, listed as questionable earlier this week, are both active for tonight's game.

DB Mike Brown, DB Davontae Harris and DL Naquan Jones are the inactives for the Titans in Jacksonville. Read more about it here.

It feels like the Titans cannot start slowly tonight. Joshua Dobbs looked OK last week against Dallas, but Derrick Henry should feature a lot tonight. Dobbs can't be forced to throw 40+ passes. And remember that the Titans did have an early lead against the Jaguars in Nashville last month until the turnovers creeped into the picture.

Getting close to kickoff.
