Tennessee Voices, Episode 374: Jenadi Talbot, co-founder, Breast Cancer Recovery in Action

A decade ago, Jenadi Talbot had lost her stepfather to cancer, her mother was diagnosed with the disease and, soon after, she was as well.

She had four children under the age of 9 and she was not convinced she would survive.

Facing her mortality, she decided she wanted to live her life with purpose every day.

Her diagnosis led her to help found Breast Cancer Recovery in Action, a grassroots nonprofit to help other women become advocates for their health care by becoming educated and empowered.

The group's acronym is BRA, because, Talbot said, they like to minimize cancer.

"This BRA fits anyone," she said.

"We are a serious organization, but we also have to have fun because there's so much heaviness through this journey,” she added.

On this episode of the Tennessee Voices video podcast, she talked about being a 10-year breast cancer survivor.

The Vanderbilt biomedical engineering graduate recently celebrated 24 years of marriage with her husband Ben.

She also talked about an upcoming community engagement event called OctoBRAfest, which kicks off on Sept. 30.
