Tennis Roundup- Bronson competes at SMITL Championship; Coldwater falls to Lumen Christi; LMS downs Titans

BROOKLYN — The Bronson Lady Viking tennis team traveled to the SMITL Championship on Monday, coming away with a sixth place finish overall as a team.

Number one singles player Kaden Alli had a spectacular tournament, earning runner-up honors as well as earning a spot on the All Conference Team as an at-large athlete.

Alli went 1-1 on the day, defeating her Hillsdale opponent in three sets by scores of 4-6, 6-2 and in a 10-8 tiebreaker to advance to the championship finals. There Alli dropped a tough matchup with Columbia Central’s number one singles athlete, falling by scores of 6-2 and 6-0 to earn runner-up honors.

At number two singles it was Cheyanne Villasan battling through a tough flight, falling in the opening round to her Leslie opponent in straight sets before dropping an absolute slugfest to her Lansing Christian opponent in three sets by scores of 6-2, 4-6 and 12-10 in a tiebreak. Villain finished in sixth place overall in the conference.

At number three singles it was Samantha Francom finishing 0-2 after falling to her Hillsdale opponent in straight sets and falling to her Onsted opponent in the consolation finals. Francom finished in sixth place overall in the conference.

Also competing strong for Bronson was the number one doubles team of Jenni Mora and Leslie Aguilar. The duo dropped their first match up of the day with the team from Lansing Christian in straight sets before falling to the doubles team from Leslie to end the day. The team of Mora and Aguilar finished in sixth place overall in the conference.

Coldwater tennis falls to #6 Lumen Christi

JACKSON — The Coldwater Cardinal tennis team took on the sixth ranked team in Division Four on Monday, falling to the Lumen Christi Titans by the score of 8-0.

Individual results saw Emma Madden fall at number one singles by scores of 2-6 and 2-6; number two singles Jillian Hawver fall by scores of 6-4, 3-6 and 4-10; Claire Hawver fall at number three singles by scores of 0-6 and 0-6; and Ally Aker fall at number four singles by scores of 2-6 and 0-6.

At number one doubles the team of Mimi Nguyen and Ashley Drzewicki fell by scores of 1-6 and 0-6; the number two doubles team of Allie Welch and Jillian McKinley fell by scores of 3-6 and 2-6; the number three doubles team of Eliza Douglas and Lisset Beltran fell by scores of 4-6 and 1-6; and the number four doubles team of Violet Cunkle and Dakota Allen fell by scores of 0-6 and 2-6.

In exhibition matches the Coldwater duo of Luci Cunningham and Mallory Morrick won by the score of 8-1.

With the loss to Lumen Christi the Coldwater Lady Cardinals finished in fifth place in the Interstate 8 conference. Coldwater will play one more regular season match against Kalamazoo Central this Wednesday at Heritage Park.

Legg Middle School tennis downs Lumen Christi

JACKSON — The Coldwater Legg Middle School Cardinal tennis team came away victorious over Lumen Christi on Monday, winning by the score of 8-2.

Winning in the singles flights were Janet Rucker, Julianna Cowles and Maren DeBeau.

Taking titles in the doubles portion of the day were the teams of Joseph Searles and Logun Fisher; the team of Carly Krzyzanski and Maddy Grife; the duo of Logan Kirk and Kinely Brown; the team of Keely Pollman and Garrett Boger; and the team of Gabe McCowan and Lilly Scheidler.

The LMS Cardinals also won a handful of exhibition matches on the night.

The Legg Middle School Cardinals will next see action Thursday at home when they face Three Rivers.
